Army veteran Josh Wetzel received the surprise of a lifetime for his 30th birthday, complete with smiles, laughs, and tears.
The former sergeant lost both of his legs in 2012 when stepping on an explosive device while on deployment in Afghanistan. But his injury didn’t stop him from becoming even more accomplished. In the four years since his injury, Josh and his wife, Paige, had a daughter, and he went back to school at Auburn University. He is interning in the athletics department, and will be receiving his bachelor’s degree this year.
Paige decided to honor those accomplishments on his birthday, with the help of the school. He was surprised at the Jordan-Hare Stadium by friends and family, and even the Auburn mascot!
Then, he was led out onto the field, where he was told there would be a surprise waiting for him on the scoreboard.
Paige and their daughter watched the screen, where pictures of their family appeared. Then he saw the caption: it said that he would be going to the Masters Tournament!
But that wasn’t the last surprise his wife had in store for him. Little did Josh know that she had been keeping a big secret from him for some time…
