St. Gemma’s Hospice Charity in Leeds, England is known for taking in sentimental pieces from days past. But a recent donation had shop owners and patrons alike grabbing for the tissues.
According to Mirror, an older man dropped off several bags of clothes at the shop. As the workers were sifting through the clothing, they found a piece unlike any other— a vintage 1950s wedding gown.
Even more astonishing than the exquisite gown, though, was the message that the man had attached.
The note reads:
“I wish any lady who takes this dress to have a life with her loved one. 56 years like I did. Happy years. I was a lucky man to marry a lady like mine.”
Unfortunately, the donation was anonymous— the shop has no way of contacting the previous owner. They have, however, made an appeal to their Facebook followers to hopefully track down the gracious donor.
Regardless of whether the man is found, his thoughtful note will serve as a constant reminder that true love stands the test of time. And hopefully, whoever wears the dress will have a similarly blissful marriage as he.
The dress is currently listed for sale on the charity’s eBay page.
