Waiting tables is a difficult job to say the least. It’s filled with long hours, rude customers, and low pay, not to mention the biggest challenge is physical.
One waitress just showed everyone how bad it can be.
At the JOEY Restaurant in Alberta, Canada, one waitress has had enough with her management’s policy that female servers wear heels throughout their entire shift.
The photo, posted by the waitress’s friend Nicola Gavin, shows the brutal damage done to her feet after spending an entire shift in heels. The heels are mandatory for all female servers. To add insult to bloody injury, female waiters at JOEY are also required to purchase their uniforms, while male servers can wear items from their own closets.
The restaurant denies the wardrobe policies, issuing a statement in response to the controversy.
But people aren’t letting them off the hook that easily.
If enough people make their voices heard, maybe more restaurants will update their wardrobe policies to be more fair, compassionate, and equal between men and women.
