It might not come in a one-of-a-kind box, but this pull-apart pizza is a unique treat that will disappear as soon as it’s out of the oven. While the gooey, cheesy bread is hands-down delicious, the real beauty of this recipe is that it can be modified in tons of ways.
Often called monkey bread, this doughy dish first appeared in print in the 1950s, featured in American women’s magazines and community cookbooks. It was originally imagined as a dessert, with sweet yeast dough, melted butter, cinnamon, sugar and pecans making up the ingredients. Soon, the basic version had been modified to include other sweets like caramel or, like this version, changed almost entirely to a savory dish.
