Nobody is blessed with completely perfect skin (if so, we want to hear from you). Especially as we get older, we have to deal with problems like moles, skin tags, clogged pores, and breakouts. Many of these are a result of lifestyle and hormones.
It is common to purchase the latest beauty products to try to counteract these problems. But these products rarely solve the real problem. Ultimately, the best remedies are the homemade solutions that use natural ingredients, with no chemicals. Some of these can resolve skin issues and give your skin that beautiful glow.
For the following skin problems, we’ve found that these natural solutions really do the trick:
This very common problem is caused melanocytes – groupings of skin pigmentation cells stemming from sun exposure. Both the young and old deal with moles, but how do we get rid of them?
Garlic: You can use plain garlic or garlic extract to help remove moles. Simply cover the surrounding area with petroleum jelly or tape, then press the garlic to the mole. Once you’ve done so, put a bandage over the area and let it sit for four hours. Do this every day for maximum results.
Castor Oil and Baking Soda: This works just like garlic. Create a paste from the castor oil and baking soda. As before, cover the surrounding area before you use the paste. Leave it overnight, rinse, and repeat daily.
Apple Cider Vinegar: If you want your moles to fall away, try this tip. Take a cotton ball and soak it with apple cider vinegar. Apply to the mole and keep it stable with a bandage. Leave it on for at least eight hours, and refresh as needed.
While moles are caused by sun exposure and genetics, warts are caused by a virus. The papilloma virus that causes warts includes symptoms like bumps on the skin or mucous membranes. A common treatment is a salicylic acid or freezing. Another treatment method involves wrapping them in duct tape. We’d stick to these natural solutions:
Bananas: Keep your banana peels. These can be used to get rid of a wart in two weeks’ time. Apply the inside of a banana peel to the wart each night, and repeat until the wart is gone.
Pure Raw Honey: Thank the bees for this permanent solution. Apply honey to the wart and wrap it in a bandage before you go to bed. Honey is so powerful that, in some cases, the wart never returns again.
Apple Cider Vinegar: It’s not just good for moles. Another effective nightly solution involves vinegar-soaked cotton balls held to the wart with a bandage. To make the wart disappear, keep this solution going, replacing every one to two days.
Garlic: Garlic extract or crushed garlic can easily get rid of warts. Put the garlic on the wart and cover with a bandage. For extra benefits, dribble garlic juice on the area twice a day.
3. Skin Tags
Skin tags are growths that result from skin rubbing against itself. They typically stick out from the neck, chest, eyelids, and beneath the arms. People will usually attempt to get rid of them by cutting, tying, or freezing them off, but these solutions are also great:
Apple Cider Vinegar: Dampen a cotton ball in the vinegar and make sure to avoid unnecessary dripping. Dab the vinegar onto the skin tag, then hold it in place. After a few days, the skin tag will come off naturally.
Tea Tree Oil: For more sensitive places like the eyes, try this option. Take a damp cotton ball and drop one to two drops of tea tree oil. Apply to the skin tag and then keep the cotton ball there. Do this three times a day for one month to safely remove skin tags.
Baking Soda and Castor Oil: Make a paste from these ingredients, then put the mixture under a bandage and cover the affected area. You’ll be applying this three times a day, so make extra and keep it in the fridge. It will keep for up to two days.
4. Dark Spots
These discolored patches of skin often appear on the arms, hands, and face. Also known as “age spots,” these are often attributed to aging in the liver. Here are some fantastic natural cures:
Lemon: Lemon isn’t just a great natural disinfectant, it also naturally bleaches. Juice half a lemon, and then use a cotton ball to apply to the spot at least two times per day.
Aloe Vera: Everyone loves to treat their skin with aloe. You can either grow it yourself or pick up the gel at the store. Either way, apply to the dark spot and keep it there for a half hour.
Onion: Take an onion and put it in a juicer or blender. Apply the juice to the skin for a quarter hour and rinse. Repeat daily and watch the dark spot disappear.
Horseradish: This pungent root is perfect for age spots. Combine with vinegar and apply once per day.
Vitamin C Serums: Go to your local food coop and pick up organic vitamin C serums. This organic, nontoxic solution will not only make dark spots go away but also will reverse the skin damage.
5. Clogged Pores
As oil builds up in the skin, the pores get clogged and the skin starts to look bumpy. Though not a health problem, they mar the skin’s healthy glow and can lead to other problems. Try these two fabulous tips to clear your pores:
Sugar Scrub: This natural exfoliant will make your skin positively glow. Take sugar and lemon juice. With a clean fabric washcloth, rub it into the skin in a circular motion. Once you’ve finished, give your face a warm rinse and go about your day.
Steaming: This heavy-duty and satisfying solution will work wonders for your pores. After washing your face, get some water boiling. Turn the heat off and hold your face over the pot for at least 15 minutes. When you’re done, clean your face once with a bit of vinegar, then rinse twice with warm water.
