When most of us think of Miss America, most of us probably associate the talent portion of the pageant with dance routines or musical numbers. This is still true to some extent, but many beauty queens are taking strides to differentiate themselves from the crowd, and maybe break down a stereotype or two in the process.
Talents this year ranged from the traditional, with a day-winning opera performance from Miss Georgia, to the forward-thinking (and somewhat explosive) science experiment performed by Miss Vermont.
But the performance everyone is talking about is one from Miss Colorado, Kelley Johnson. Valedictorian of her nursing program, instead of any song or dance, Johnson decided to take to the stage in her medical scrubs and deliver a heartfelt monologue about her most important patient.
