Have you ever seen pups like these? These are “Wotties,” a West Highland Terrier and Rottweiler mix. The mother, though, is significantly bigger than the dad.
Owner Teresa Patterson’s terrier Joey has mated with Zara, a female Rottweiler, twice his size. Together, the dogs produced a little of 11 wotties.
Teresa was surprised by the litter, as she didn’t even know Zara was pregnant until the puppies were born. Unfortunately, Zara lost interest in the puppies, so four of them them died, causing Teresa to step in and feed them.
Teresa said, “I was completely shocked, I didn’t think nature would let this happen but at some point it did. The puppies have a lovely temperament like their parents. They are high maintenance as they want attention all the time. One of the puppies, Sparkie, which our son is having, follows me everywhere I go. But this won’t happen again – Joey will be going to the vets soon.”
Victoria Lowe adopted one of the puppies (now named Lola), and she says everyone is fascinated by the uniqueness of her. Even The Kennel Club, who registers over 250,000 puppies through 212 breeds, is bewildered by wotties: “We can never say it has never happened but this is the first time we’ve come across it.”
