There is nothing like the pomp and circumstance of the Kentucky Derby. The beauty of its surroundings and the splendor of the race itself is enough to take one’s breath away.
Yet, leave it to country trio Lady Antebellum for taking the May 7 race to a whole new level with their rendition of the National Anthem, which they performed beautifully before the running of the 142nd Kentucky Derby. Looking gorgeous despite singing through torrential rains, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood treated the near to capacity crowd to yet another wonderful rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.
“Each year we work to honor the Kentucky Derby’s rich traditions and celebrate the best of American culture,” says Kevin Flannery, President of Churchill Downs Racetrack in a recent press release. “As an internationally-recognized musical group, Lady Antebellum is the perfect fit to uphold the Derby’s traditions and we are thrilled for them to perform our national anthem for the millions of Derby viewers and fans around the world.”
Lady A joins country acts such as Jo Dee Messina, Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes and Martina McBride, all of whom have taken on the important task of singing the anthem.
