Becoming a parent means navigating a steep learning curve. While the pediatrician’s number is always handy, knowing what to do in case of choking is a crucial – yet sometimes overlooked – skill anyone with an infant should have.
Thankfully, the people at St. John Ambulance managed to break it down into easy steps even the most sleep-deprived parent can remember. Founded in 1877, the volunteer-led charity originally sought to teach industrial workers basic first aid. Workplace accidents were common at the time and doctors were usually not accessible.
Since then, the organization has grown to include 42 national branches. First aid instruction is still at the forefront of their mission, but they now provide many other services as well.
