We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, but how often do you actually clean your mattress? Most of us do an occasional flip or rotation, but let’s be honest – getting into the nitty-gritty of really cleaning it doesn’t happen more than once or twice a year (if that). Unlike most our household chores, there’s no special device or product to make the job easier. After all, you can’t throw your mattress in the dishwasher or give it a quick once-over with Lysol wipes. Anyways, it can’t be that dirty …. can it?
The reality is far worse than I ever imagined. As Melissa Maker of Clean My Space describes in this video, the average person sweats up to half a pint every night. Add in the 1.6 pounds of skin that individuals shed every year, and your mattress is already battling quite a build-up. Combined with spills, accidents, pet wear and tear, and more, the mattress is one heck of a dirty area – yet most of us lay down each night without giving it a second thought. That is, until we learned about all of this!
If you’re like me, you won’t be able to sleep tonight until you freshen up your space. While it seems like it would be a big job, Melissa has some tricks that get it done is a flash. In fact, it might even take you longer to watch the video than to clean your mattress! Although baking soda is a prime ingredient in this method, baby powder can also be substituted for a soothing scent that kids and adults will love. Anyone else feeling a bit sleepy?
