The Festa Junina, or June Festival, is one of the most popular traditional celebrations in Brazil. Happening each year in the middle of summer, the festival is accompanied by a feast in celebration of the Catholic figures of Saint Anthony, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Peter. The festivities usually involve huge tents that are used for parties in communities across the country.
An integral part of the Festa Junina celebrations is forró music and the accompanying dance. Forró originated in Northern Brazil and involves a very brisk dance style accompanied by the traditional upbeat music of the festival. As you can see in this video, incredible coordination and speed is needed to pull off these impressive dance moves.
