Dogs have a way of forming very deep bonds with their owners. For the dog featured in this story, that bond was strong enough that everyone in the town couldn’t help but take notice. 12-year-old German shepherd Tommy had been going to the local church every day and waiting patiently by the alter. What keeps Tommy motivated to visit each day is that this was the last place he saw his owner.
Tommy’s owner, Maria Margherita Lochi, first met Tommy when she found him abandoned in the fields near her home in San Donaci, Italy. Soon after discovering him wandering around, she developed a soft spot for the dog and decided to adopt him.
Sadly, Maria passed away at the age of 57.
Her funeral was held at a local church, and Tommy was in attendance to see his owner be honored at the service. Months later, Tommy would be seen at the church every morning sitting by the alter.
Members of the church and other village locals have all welcomed Tommy to their masses and give him food while he patiently sits where he last saw Maria’s face.
