Transformation Of Childhood In 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s

These days, it seems like people are worried about everything. Kids today are cautioned to stay close to home, only ride their bikes on the sidewalk and avoid messy situations, but in the 1960s, 70s and 80s? Running around the neighborhood with friends is what kids lived for. Scraps, cuts, bullies and dirt were a part of life, and you were expected to pop up and keep going. There wasn’t mass fear surrounding infection, kidnapping, accidents and the million other bad things that can happen to kids. Sure, things happened, but it felt like a safer world.

The Internet has changed all of that. While it’s great for a lot of things, it also contributes to the high speed at which bad news travels. When there’s a new sickness or a child disappears, everyone knows about it, and as any parent will tell you, it’s hard not to worry about your own kids. The innocence of those years is gone, but it sure is fun to reminiscence.
