Blind Cat Who Was Homeless For Years Is Now Living Life Like A King

Mr. Magoo was different from the other stray cats who wandered the streets and alleyways of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The 4-year-old ginger cat was born with an condition called microphthalmia, which made his eyes abnormally small for his breed, his Facebook page explains.

Although Mr. Magoo is largely blind, he does have limited peripheral vision and the ability to detect some light and shadow.

Mr. Magoo was found on the streets, along with another cat, by the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT). However, the facility was at maximum capacity so he was placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list, according to his Facebook page. Mr. Magoo developed an infection that caused blood to trickle from his nose and ulcers to form in his mouth, leaving him unable to eat.

A Facebook post made by the Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary caught the attention of Colleen Kelly-Angstadt and her husband, Scott. The two immediately scoured the web to find Mr. Magoo’s exact location — but by the time they contacted the ACCT, Mr. Magoo was no longer there. Eventually someone with the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA), which had taken Mr. Magoo into its care, reached out to the Angstadts. A foster family had already claimed Mr. Magoo — but that family never showed up to take him home.

The Angstadts found Mr. Magoo just in time. His health was deteriorating, but he was able to start the recovery process once he was safely at home with his new forever family, which had fallen in love with him at first sight.

“When the veterinary tech brought Goo out to us,” Colleen said, “I had to collect myself. I peered through the crate at that sweet face and instantly fell in love, even though his face was bloody and oozing, and he was in a lot of pain. I knew then that he needed us and we needed him.”

It only took Mr. Magoo three days to start feeling better and by the time three months had passed, he was playing around like any other normal cat. As they say, the rest was history.

Mr. Magoo acts as an advocate of sorts for animals with special needs like himself. He’s probably the most stylish cat on the block with his impressive collection of bow ties …
