When Khari Toure, a father and spoken word poet, learned that one of his daughters was being bullied in school, he was heartbroken. He decided to take matters into his own hands and do what he does best – use the power of the spoken word – and wrote “Love Yourself.” The song is an homage to his daughters, who range from 2-15 years old. He wanted to give them some wisdom and empower them with a body-positive message they could carry with them every day.
Khari says he hopes the song will “empower children who have been abused, bullied, and belittled, to build up their confidence, embrace who they are, and love themselves unconditionally.” With over 2.5 million views and counting, it’s clear that that message is being appreciated by people everywhere.
